  • Three main modes for PAN verification are API-based, file-based and screen-based.

PAN Verification

The PAN verification facility helps in checking the authenticity of a PAN card. It is a compulsory requirement. The Income Tax Department of India has authorized the NSDL e-Government Infrastructure Limited to come up with an online PAN verification service for the same purpose. Currently, the NSDL e-Government Infrastructure Limited or the UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited provides the PAN card verification service via selected entities. This service can only be availed online since there is no offline procedure.

The online PAN verification can be done via three primary modes.

API based PAN verification

In this method, you can verify PAN on the verification sites using a software application.

NSDL file-based PAN verification

This file-based method allows you to verify up to 1,000 PAN cards at one go. Government authorities or organizations generally opt for this method. This method shows you the details in the following steps.

  • Log into the account.
  • Upload the file in the same format or structure as specified by the website.
  • Click on ‘Submit’.
  • The details will be generated within 24 hours.
  • The website will reject the verification request if the uploaded file is not in the specified format.

Screen-based PAN verification

With this screen-based PAN verification mode, you can verify up to 5 PAN cards. The following steps are required in this mode.

  • Log into your account.
  • Enter the details of the PAN cards.
  • Tap on ‘Submit’ to view the details.

Certain entities authorized by NSDL e-Government Infrastructure Limited are eligible for using the PAN card verification service. Here goes the list of eligible.

To verify PAN card of an organization you are required to provide multiple documents.

Organization related details

  • Name of the entity
  • TAN and PAN of the entity
  • Category of the entity
  • Personal details of the entity
  • Contact details of the entity

Payment related details

  • Payment amount
  • Mode of payment
  • Number of instrument

Digital Signature Certificate details

  • Class of the Digital Signature Certificate
  • Serial number of the Digital Signature Certificate
  • Name of the certifying authority

To verify PAN by PAN number follow these steps.

  • Visit the e-Filing portal of Income Tax Department, https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home.
  • From the given list of quick links on the left side of the page, take the option of ‘Verify Your PAN Details’.
  • You will be redirected to the ‘Verify Your PAN’ page.
  • On the page, provide the following data.
    • PAN
    • Full Name
    • Date of Birth
    • Status
    • Captcha code (as displayed in the image)
  • Check the details and tap on ‘Submit’ to complete the verification.

PAN Verification by Name & Date of Birth

Follow these steps to verify PAN card by name and date of birth.

  • Get to the e-Filing portal of Income Tax Department.
  • Tap on ‘Verify Your PAN Details’ on the left side menu.
  • On the new screen, enter the required details.
    • PAN number
    • Name
    • Date of birth
  • Type in the captcha code and tap on ‘Submit’.

Verify PAN Card Online with Aadhaar Card

Here are the steps that you can follow to verify your PAN card online with Aadhaar card.

  • Go to the official e-filing portal of Income Tax Department.
  • Under the Quick Links, tap on ‘Link Aadhaar’ and it will redirect you to the next screen.
  • Enter the following details.

    The income tax department again extended the deadline for linking of PAN card and Aadhaar card. The deadline for the PAN Aadhar linking is extended to 31st March 2021. The decision was taken in the wake of COVID 19 outbreak.
  • 2020-05-28 : Free instant PAN card facility through Aadhaar launched.
    Finance Minister launched the facility for instant allotment of PAN card using Aadhaar-based e-KYC. The facility is available for all those Permanent Account Number applicants who possess a valid Aadhaar number and have a mobile number registered with Aadhaar. Further, the allotment process is paperless, and an electronic PAN (e-PAN) is issued to the applicants free of cost.
