The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has come up with a new feature to lock and unlock your Aadhaar number. This will help to further strengthen the security and privacy of an individual’s Aadhaar number. If you lock your Aadhaar number, then authentication services using any method, be it OTP (one-time password) or demographic based, cannot be done using Aadhaar number. Now you will have to use the virtual ID of 16 digits for Aadhaar to undertake any authentication services for KYC purposes. You can use your Aadhaar number for authentication services once you have unlocked it.

It’s important to generate a virtual ID so that you can lock your Aadhaar Card. This can be done by visiting the UIDAI’s website or simply by sending an SMS.
