Before going to the detailed procedure of using the e-Services website for TN Patta Chitta, let’s clarify the concepts of Patta and Chitta.

What is Patta?

In Tamil Nadu, Patta is a legitimate document displaying the ownership of land and its revenue records. Patta can also be referred to as the ROR document. This document contains these following details of the land.

  • Ownership details
  • Patta Number
  • Address of the land
  • Size of the area
  • Tax-related details
  • State of the land (wetland and dryland).

What is Chitta?

Chitta in Tamil Nadu refers to a legitimate revenue document that is managed by the Taluk Offices and Village Administration Officers. Much like Patta, Chitta provides land-related information like ownership, area and so on.

However, the key function of the Chitta is to display the sort of land or property. In Tamil Nadu, the land or property type refers to these two.

  • ‘Nanjai’ which means wetland or waterbodies.
  • ‘Punjai’ which means dryland.

Till the year 2014, the state of Tamil Nadu used to issue Patta and Chitta as two separate documents. However, the two documents were merged into a single record in the year 2015.
