KYC in EPF UAN

The government has made it compulsory for the employees to make their EPF accounts KYC compliant. By opting for EPF KYC update, the employees can avail a number of online services such as making a nomination, account transfer, raising withdrawal request, and many more through the EPFO Member e-SEWA Portal. Moreover, if the KYC is not up-to-date, there are high chances that the EPFO will reject the employee’s EPF withdrawal claim.

The employees can easily update their KYC details online with the help of the EPFO online portal. The introduction of the Universal Account Number (UAN) in 2014 has made the entire process of EPFO KYC update hassle-free. To go about the process of the EPFO KYC updation, the employees will require the UAN credential. Linking the UAN with the Aadhaar card of the employee will make the employer approve the claim of withdrawal faster, unlike the previous times when an employee required attestation from their employer to request EPF withdrawal claim .

How to Complete the KYC Process?

To opt for the UAN KYC update, the account holders need to follow some easy and simple steps. They are:

  • To start the EPF KYC, Visit the official portal of EPFO.
  • Login to your EPF account with your password, UAN and the captcha code as displayed.
  • Spot the ‘Manage’ tab and click on the “KYC” option that appears in the drop-down menu.
  • You will then be redirected to a new tab containing the form for EPFO KYC will appear.
  • Fill up the KYC form with the required details such as bank details, PAN, Aadhaar, Driving License, Passport, Election Card, National Population Register (NPR) etc.
  • Tick in the box in front of the document that you want to update.
  • Input the document number, your name as per the document and other essential information such as the following IFSC code for bank details, expiry date for documents such as driving license and passport.
  • Once all information has been entered, tap on the ‘Save’ option to save all changes.
  • Check the ‘Pending KYC’ section to make sure that the details are saved.

Cancellation and status check

  • At this stage, if you come across second-thoughts, you may cancel the entire process by selecting the ‘X’ sign provided right next to the document.
  • Once you proceed with the update, you need to check the status of the UAN KYC update under the ‘KYC Pending for Approval’ section.
  • The details are verified by the concerned department under EPFO and status of the KYC updation shows ‘Digitally Approved KYC’.
  • After the successful PF KYC update, you will receive a confirmation via SMS.

Some key point to be kept in mind are listed as follows:

  • The documents that are considered valid while approaching EPFO KYC update are PAN card, Aadhaar card, passport, ration card, Voter ID, driving license and bank details.
  • The members need to make sure that the inputs provided while updating the details of documents such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, bank details, etc. are completely free from any form of discrepancies.
  • After the details have been provided by the account holder, it may take around 2-3 days for the employer to approve the EPFO KYC updation.
  • In case of PF withdrawal within the first 5 years of service, TDS is applied at 34.608%. However, the TDS charge is reduced to 10% in case the PAN has been updated with EPF account.
