You can check or track the EPF withdrawal status via both online and offline methods. You can check the PF claim status online through:

  • EPFO Portal – Visit the EPFO portal and get redirected to the passbook application log in via the ‘Know Your Claim Status’ option. After that, you can use your UAN, and password to log in and view the claim status.
  • UAN Portal - Log in to your UAN account, click on ‘Track Claim Status’ option under the ‘Online Services’ option to know your EPF claim status.
  • Umang App - search for ‘EPFO’, and under the Employee Centric Services open the ‘Track Claim’ option. To know your EPF withdrawal log in via UAN and OTP.

What is EPF Claim Status?

Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a retirement corpus fund which is built with the contribution of both employee and employer. Withdrawal from an EPF account before maturity is restrictive to certain conditions and specific circumstances only.

After you have applied for the withdrawal of funds whether partial withdrawal before maturity or full withdrawal at the time of maturity, you can check the claim status online through your UAN (Universal Account Number). Therefore activation of UAN is mandatory for checking the EPFO claim status.

The EPF withdrawal status checks online helps you to know the stage at which your withdrawal application is at present. It gives an idea of the claim’s process and the stage at which your application has reached. Also, it allows you to prepare yourself for any errors or delays in the process.

EPF Claim Forms

If you want to withdraw money from your EPF account then, first of all, you need to check whether the reason or the circumstance for which you wish to withdraw meets the eligibility criteria required to be able to make a partial or full withdrawal. If you are meeting the criterion, then the next step for you is to fill the claim form. The EPF Withdrawal Forms differ based upon the reason for withdrawal, age, and whether you are currently in service or not.

Nowadays all you need to submit the withdrawal form is your Aadhaar details and an activated UAN account.

  • Step 1: If you are withdrawing due to unemployment or intend to take an advance on your EPF or you have left the establishment due to physical disability, and your age is less than 58 then Composite Form needs to be filled.
  • Step 1: If you want to fund your LIC policy, then Form 14 needs to be filled.

  • Step 1: In case you are applying as nominee then you need to fill Form 28 and 10D if the deceased has completed 10 years of service. In case the deceased has not completed 10 years of service, then you have to fill the Composite Form.

How to Check/Track for EPF Claim Online?

Let’s dive deeper into the steps for each method of checking the EPF claim status.

Through UAN Member Portal

This method is one of the easiest ways to check your status of EPF claims online. The following are the steps:

Step 1: Visit the UAN portal https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/

Step 2: Now, enter your UAN, password and captcha. Then click on the ‘Sign in’ button

Step 3: After clicking on ‘Sign in’ you will be redirected to your UAN member profile. On this page, click on the ‘Online Services’ option’s drop-down in the tab menu.

Step 4: From the displayed options, click on ‘Track Claim Status’.

Step 5: The next page will show you the status of your EPF claim, and when you scroll down, you can also see ‘Transfer Claim Status’.

Through EPFO Portal

You can do the EPF claim status check through the EPFO portal by following the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: First of all, you need to visit the EPFO’s portal https://www.epfindia.gov.in/

Step 2: The next step is to find the ‘For Employees’ option under the tab ‘Services’.

Step 3: Now the next step for you is to click on the ‘Know Your Claim Status’ option under the heading ‘Services’ on the page.

Step 4: As part of the next step, the EPFO portal will then show you the button ‘Click here to get redirected to the passbook application’. Thus, you need to click on the presented button to get redirected to the passbook portal. https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login

Step 5: Now, you have to log in to your account using the UAN, password and filling up the captcha.

Step 6: After entering the account details and logging in, you can now find the option of ‘View Claim Status’. Click on that option to know the status of your EPF claim.

Through Umang APP

You can use the Umang app to check your EPF claim online. The following are the steps:

Step 1: Firstly download the Umang app if you do not have it yet. In the app search for ‘EPFO’ and click on it.

Step 2: In the next step, choose ‘Employee Centric Services’ from the options available.

Step 3: Now, open the ‘Track Claim’ option.

Step 4: Follow it up by entering your UAN and clicking on ‘Get OTP’.

Step 5: The OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number with EPFO. Enter the received OTP and click on the ‘Login’ option.

Step 6: In the next page, you will be displayed details of all the claims made on that particular UAN from tracking ID to claim raised date, claim status, etc.

Through Missed Call

Apart from the online methods involving multiple steps, you can also choose to check your EPF claim status via offline modes such as a call. The EPF claim status contact number is 011-22901406. It is a toll-free number, and you have to call on it only through your registered mobile number. Once you call on the number, it gets automatically disconnected, and you receive the details of your PF claim status via SMS.

Pre-requisite for missed call facility:

  • Activated Mobile Number with UAN at Unified Portal.
  • Any one KYC must be available against the UAN from the following list
    • Bank A/c Number.
    • Aadhaar
    • PAN

Through a SMS

You can also check your EPF claim status by sending an SMS from your registered mobile number to 7738299899. SMS format must be ‘EPFOHO UAN LAN’. In this format, the ‘LAN’ stands for the language code in which you want to receive the details. Below is the table of various languages and their codes.

SMS need to be sent from the registered mobile number of UAN. EPFO will send back last PF contribution and balance details.

‘Not Available’ status under EPF claim is shown when the EPF employee has not updated the status of your claim. Most times it is due to a technical glitch. Thus, you can keep track of your claim for some time, and if the problem persists, then you can file your grievance through EPFO website.
