How to Check EPF Balance?

Check EPF Balance using EPFO Portal

Employees can view EPF balance through EPFO portal if they have an activated UAN (Universal Account Number). Given below is the procedure to EPF balance check using the EPFO portal.

Step 1: First of all, you need to visit the EPFO employer login page. The link to EPFO unified portal login is https://unifiedportal-emp.epfindia.gov.in/epfo/#

Step 2: Next, under the service tab, click on ‘For employees’.

Step 3: Now, click on Member Passbook on the page displayed.

Step 4: Log in to the EPFO website by entering credentials such as User Name, Password and click on the Login button.

Step 5: After logging in, you can check the Member IDs of all the accounts of your current and past organisations.

PF amount Check through Umang App

Employees can also check PF balance on their mobile phone by installing the Umang Application. To view your balance, you must, however, complete a one-time registration on the application by entering the OTP sent on your registered mobile number as you download the app on your phone.

A step-by-step guide to view balance through Umang App

Step 1: Click on EPFO as you open the application.

Step 2: Next, select ‘Employee Centric Services’.

Step 3: Now, click on ‘View Passbook’.

Step 4: Enter your UAN number, and OTP sent on your registered mobile number and Click on login.

Step 5: Finally, you can now view EPF transactions from your current and previous employment.

PF Balance Enquiry by sending an SMS

Employees can also make a PF balance enquiry through offline modes. To check your PF balance, however, you must have completed the KYC of your UAN number, i.e. your PAN, Aadhar and bank details must be linked with the UAN number. You can view PF status by sending an SMS to 7738299899. The format for sending the text message is ‘EPFOHO *UAN* *Lang*’, where UAN is your Universal Account Number and Lang is the Language in which you want to view your EPF balance. Presently, you can view your PF balance in Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Hindi, and English.

PF Balance Check through missed call

To check your PF balance through the missed call, you must have an activated UAN number, and also the KYC of UAN must be completed. If you meet these eligibility criteria, you can check PF balance by giving a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number. You will then receive the EPF balance through a text message.

EPF Balance of inoperative Accounts

Inoperative Accounts are inactive EPF accounts in which contribution has not been made for 36 months.

To view the EPF balance of inoperative accounts, follow the below-mentioned procedure.

  • Visit the EPFO portal and under 'For Employees' Tab find the option Inoperative Account Help Desk.
  • Now click on 'First Time User' and then 'Proceed'.
  • Next, describe your problem in white space provided and click on Next.
  • Now enter the details of your previous organisation by providing information such as Company Address, PF number, Date of Joining etc., and click on Next.
  • On the next page, enter your personal details such as Name, Mobile Number, Date of Birth, Email ID, PAN, Aadhar etc.
  • As you have filled all the details, click on ‘Generate PIN’, which can be used to get a Reference Number. Save this number for future use.
  • Finally, your complaint will be registered and forwarded to EPFO’s Field Officer.

If you have an activated UAN number, you can check your PF balance through online and offline modes. Online PF check facility is available at EPFO portal.
