The government has declared that the customers will get one free credit report from 1st January, 2017. This rule is applicable for all the credit bureau including CIBIL, Equifax, Experian and CRIF High Mark. The customer can thus check free credit score and report online at the websites of respective credit bureaus. However, each credit bureau has a different process and format of providing an online credit report. Further, the report is available only once a year, and some bureaus publish a shorter and concise version of the report, rather than providing a complete credit report to the customers.

Experian Credit Report

CIBIL Report Online

To check your free CIBIL score, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Login to CIBIL website and click on ‘my Account’, if you are already a member of CIBIL.
  • Then, click on ‘Get Free Score and Report’ and check the free credit score instantly once in a year.
  • If you are a new user, then visit the CIBIL website, choose ‘Get your free annual score and report’ and register yourself. Now, you can get the free credit score immediately.

However, if you have already availed the benefit of a free CIBIL score check and want another report within a year, you have to make a payment of the nominal fee amount. You can then get the credit score on email after the authentication and payment is made.

Paid CIBIL Report

To get a paid CIBIL report, follow the below-mentioned steps:

Login to the CIBIL website and fill the application form by providing personal details and click on the ‘submit’ option. To get an annual report, you have to make a payment of ₹ 550 either through net banking or debit/credit card. Once the payment is confirmed, the next step is of authentication where you have to answer 3 out of 5 questions based on credit history. If the verification and payment process are successfully done, the score will be sent to your email id within 24 hours.

The process of checking the report online is quick and convenient for you. A score of 750 is considered trustworthy by lenders for providing a loan.

Equifax Credit Report

Free Equifax Report

To get free credit score provided by Equifax, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • In order to check full free credit report, you have to download the Equifax App from Google Play store or from iOS App store.
  • Open the application and enter your email id. You will receive a temporary pin. Use it for login to Equifax account.
  • The next step is the verification process. Give all your details and aadhaar card number to validate the identity.
  • A one-time password will be generated. Enter the OTP and proceed further.
  • Now, provide all your personal information and answer three questions based on credit history.
  • After the authentication process is confirmed, the full free credit report will be sent to your email id within 24 hours.

In case you don’t have a smartphone or aadhaar card number, you can also get a free credit score by emailing at ecissupport@equifaxindia.com with a scanned copy of application form, address proof and identity proof.

Paid Equifax Report

You can check the quarterly credit report by paying an amount of ₹ 138 (including taxes). The steps include:

  • Visit Equifax website and fill up all the personal details.
  • Also, attach the scanned copy of identity proof, address proof and demand draft of ₹ 138 and mail it to the email id ecissupport@equifaxindia.com.

CRIF High Mark Credit Report

To get free credit score provided by CRIF High Mark, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Login to CRIF High Mark website and click on ‘Get your free personal credit report’ option.
  • Select the ‘Get your score now’ tab and enter your email id.
  • Fill up the form by providing required details and click on the ‘Submit’ button. A mail will be sent on your email id with steps to proceed further.
  • Now, you have to answer a few questions related to credit history.
  • The information provided by you will be authenticated. The company takes around 2 days to verify the details.

  • 2021-07-12 : Half of India working population credit active: CIBIL report
    Half of the working population of 400 million people in the country is credit active, having at least one loan or credit card. Credit institutions are fast approaching a saturation level in new customers as over half of the borrowers are from the existing customer base of a bank, the report by Transunion CIBIL said. India’s overall working population was estimated to be at 400.7 million as of January 2021, while the retail credit market has 200 million unique individuals who are credit active.
  • 2021-06-23 : TU Cibil to provide lenders score of first-time borrowers
    TransUnion Cibil will now be able to help a lender assess the eligibility of new-to-credit or first-time borrowers — who have never taken a loan or credit card from banks or financial institutions. The new service incorporates an algorithm that uses an adaptive machine learning framework for continuously monitoring behavioural trends of similar data subjects and preparing the required credit reports. According to Cibil, this will enable first-time borrowers to get credit.
  • 2021-01-07 : 66.66% of borrowers unaware of their CIBIL score

    To assess the credit quality customers in the small and medium enterprises (SME) segment, Bank of Baroda and CRISIL have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). CRISIL will assess the SMEs by analyzing the data streams through its digital platform its proprietary platform for data and analytics.     Private sector lender, Allahabad Bank is offering a concession of 10 basis points to its home loan borrowers. The discount is available to only those borrowers who are having a credit score of above 750 from CIBIL and CRIF Highmark. Currently, the lender is offering 8.85% on home loans up to Rs. 25 lakh and 9.10% above Rs. 3 crores.
