Linking Aadhaar With Your EPF/UAN Account

The UAN or the Universal Account Number is a twelve-digit identification number allotted to all employees who have subscribed to the EPF, that is the Employee Provident Fund. As per the current regulations, the EPF has marked it essential for all EPF members to link the UAN with the Aadhaar. The EPFO aadhar link will make it easier for employees to withdraw funds or transfer funds from the EPF account when one leaves a job. The UAN aadhar link can be done conveniently through both the offline and the online methods. These are explained in detail in the below-mentioned paragraphs.

Online Through EPFO Portal

The EPFO aadhar link online process is convenient, time saving and reliable. These can be done by following the below-mentioned steps on the UAN website.

  • Visit the official web portal of the EPFO.
  • Go to the Login section and login with your UAN-Universal Account number and password.
  • As you log in, go to the 'Manage' option and click on the KYC option appearing on the drop-down menu.
  • After clicking on KYC, you will land to a new page. Here, select the option, 'Aadhar' for the EPF aadhar link.
  • After clicking on the 'Aadhar' option, enter your aadhar number and the name, as mentioned on the aadhar card and click on 'Save'.
  • On saving the details, the aadhar details are cross-checked as per the UIDAI's data.
  • As and when the details are successfully approved, you can find the text 'Verified' written against the Aadhar details.

By Visiting EPF Office

Apart from the online methods, EPFO aadhar link can be done offline as well. For the offline method, you need to visit the nearest EPF branch. This method is suitable for people who do not have access to computers or the internet or are not well aware of its use. The offline method for UAN aadhar link needs to be performed as follows:

  • Visit the nearest EPFO office.
  • At the office, ask for an 'Aadhar seeding application' form.
  • On the form, enter the required details such as UAN number, and Aadhar number.
  • After filling the form, attach the form with self-attested copies of UAN,PAN, and Aadhar card.
  • After filling and self-attesting the form completely, submit the form at the Common service centre.
  • On submission, the EPF aadhar link is done after complete verification of the aadhar details.
  • On successful linking of the UAN with the Aadhar, you will receive a confirmation message on the registered mobile number.

Using Umang App

UAN aadhar link can also be done using the Umang app. UMANG, which stands for Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance, was launched with a view to promote mobile-based governance in the country. For EPF aadhar link using Umang app, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Download the Umang app from the Google Play store for Android phones and from Apple store for apple phones.
  • On the app, register your mobile number, or enter the already registered mobile number.
  • Login on the app through either ‘MPIN’ in case you have previously registered or ‘OTP’ for new registrations and click on ‘Continue’.
  • In the case of new registrations, you need to set the MPIN after entering the OTP to use the app further.
  • After logging in, go to the "All services tab".
  • Select the option 'EPFO'.
  • Go to the option 'e-KYC services' under this option and select the "Aadhar seeding option."
  • On choosing this option, enter the UAN and enter the OTP received on the number linked to the EPF account.
  • Proceed further and enter your aadhar details.
  • On entering the aadhar details, you may again receive the OTP on the registered aadhar and mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP and wait for its verification.
  • On successful verification, the Aadhar is linked to the EPFO account.

By OTP Verification on e-KYC Portal of EPFO

Another way to link the UAN with the aadhar is via OTP verification on the e-KYC portal of the EPF. This can be done by following the below-mentioned steps:

  • Visit the 'KYC' option, mentioned on the 'Manage' tab on the EPFO website.
  • On this option, click on the ‘Link UAN number’ option mentioned under the 'EPFO members'.
  • On this page, enter the UAN and the registered mobile number.
  • As you enter the registered number, enter the OTP received on your mobile number in the "Confirm OTP" column.
  • Proceed further by entering details like your gender and aadhar number.
  • To verify the details, select the option, ‘Use Mobile/email-based OTP’.
  • On clicking this, you will receive another OTP on the registered mobile number and email address.
  • Enter the OTP and the captcha code and click on submit.
  • As and when the details are verified, EPF aadhar link verification is completed using the OTP verification on the e-KYC portal.

Using Biometric Credentials on e-KYC Portal

  • Visit the official portal of EPFO.
  • On the portal, log in as an EPFO member using the UAN number and password.
  • As you log in, the page is redirected to the member's profile home page.
  • On this page, look out for the option 'Aadhar'.
  • In case the Aadhar number is linked to the UAN, then the text 'Verified' is mentioned against the Aadhar column.


Is it mandatory to link UAN with Aadhar?

It is not mandatory to link UAN with aadhar. However, as per EPF, linking aadhaar with EPF is important for filling online claims on the EPF. PF aadhar link helps one check their account balance, statements, online claim submission, and partial withdrawals from PF account.

How do employers get KYC approved?

Employers can get KYC approved on the EPFO online portal for establishments. Login on the member tab, and select the option 'Approvals' under the option 'Members tab'. Proceed further, and choose the option 'DSC KYC' on the page. On this portal, select the 'KYC pending for DS' form the members' tab.

How many days will it take to update KYC in EPF?

Linking UAN with aadhar card takes about 3 to 5 working days for verification and approval for KYC documents.

How can I update my Aadhar card with UAN without an employer?

To link aadhaar with a pf account online, you can visit the EPFO online portal and choose the option E-KYC on the website. Apart, you can also link the EPFO with aadhar using the Umang app.

Can I withdraw my PF without an Aadhar card?

You cannot withdraw funds online from your PF without an aadhar card. However, in case of absence of aadhar card, you need to contact the employer or the former employer in case you wish to withdraw the funds. This may be a time-consuming process and may require you to fill Form 19.
