Aadhar is a 12- digit verifiable identification number issued by UIDAI ( The Unique Identification Authority of India) and serves as an identity and address proof. If residents want to make any correction in Aadhar data, they can update their data through online mode or by visiting the Permanent Enrolment Centres.

When do I need to update my Aadhar card?

Here are some common scenarios when residents need to change the information provided in the Aadhaar card:

Updating Aadhar Card Details Online

To request for updating biometric data and demographic details, including the address, the resident needs to visit the Permanent Enrolment center. The update is done with the help of operator, who collects the necessary documents for updating the details.

Process To Update / Change Address In Aadhaar Card

If the residents want to update their address in Aadhar card online, their mobile number should be registered. The residents need to follow the following procedure by going on the official website of UIDAI.

Step 1. Visit the official self-service portal of Aadhar by clicking on ‘Update your Address Online’.

Step 2. On the page displayed, click on ‘Proceed to Update Address.

Step 3. Enter their Aadhaar number or Virtual ID and Captcha and click on enter OTP to receive OTP on their registered number.

Step 4. After login to the portal, select the address option for updation for address. Fill in the present address and click on the confirm button.

Step 5. Select the BPO( Business Process Outsourcing) service provider and attach the scanned address proof to complete the process of address update.

Step 6. After submiting the request for an update, they will be provided URN ( Update Request Number). URN is used to track the status of Aadhar update.

Update Aadhar Address without Documents

If residents don’t have address proof of their residence, they can update the address without any document. To change the address without documents, they can update their address using the address verifier. Follow these steps to update their address without proof of address.

Step 1. Initiating the request: Log in to the website of Aadhar using their Aadhar number and captcha. After entering the Aadhar details, the resident will receive the SRN ( Service Request Number).

Step 2. Receiving the consent of verifier:After clicking on ‘Request for Address Validation Letter,’ you would need to fill in the Aadhar number of the verifier. The verifier would now receive a link for his consent on his mobile number. To give the consent and confirm the request of the resident, the verifier has to click on the link and login to the account.

Step 3. Submission of a request by resident: Once the verifier gives his consent, the resident will receive a confirmation of validation on his mobile number. To submit the request, he needs to login using SRN and previews the address of the verifier and click on submit update request.

Step 4. Receives the secret code:After submission, the resident will receive a secret code through the post. The address can then be updated online by clicking on the Aadhar update online portal. The resident can review the address after entering the secret code for submitting the final request.

Updating Aadhar Card Details by visiting Permanent Enrolment Centre

Process To Update / Change Name In Aadhar Card

If the residents have a different name in PAN and Aadhar card or they want to change the name in Aadhar card due to other reasons they can visit the nearest Permanent Enrolment center and change their name by following these steps:

Step 1. Fill the application form for updation of the name in Aadhar card and enter the correct name in the form.

Step 2. Submit the required document as a proof for verification of request made.

Step 3. After submitting the request, the executive will provide the acknowledgment slip after registering the request for an update. The residents need to pay ₹ 25 for the updation request.

Step 3. Enter their Aadhaar number or Virtual ID and Captcha and click on enter OTP to receive OTP on their registered number.

Process To Update Mobile Number In Aadhar Card

In case residents are not using the number they provided at the time of enrolment or they did not provide any number at the time of enrolment, they can update their mobile number by visiting the Permanent Enrolment Centre. The process of updating the mobile number is similar to updating other details except that unlike updation for the name, they don’t need to provide any proof for updation of mobile number. To update their mobile number, they need to fill the updation form and pay the fees of ₹ 50. On submitting the request, the executive will provide the acknowledgement slip after registering the request for an update.

Process To Update Date of Birth In Aadhar

To update the date of birth, residents need to follow these steps:

Step 1. Visit the nearest Permanent Enrolment center and fill in the Aadhar update form by clearly mentioning the date of birth.

Step 2. Submit the age proof along with the form. They will also have to pay ₹ 50 + taxes to the executive.

Step 3. The executive will then take the biometrics data to authenticate their identity and submit an acknowledgment slip containing URN.

Step 4. The URN number can be used to check the status of update, which usually takes about 90 days.
