This is due to the card containing the biometric data along with the demographic data of the cardholder. Aadhaar card for kids below the age of 5 years - Baal Aadhaar

Aadhar card for kids below the age of 5 years including newborns is termed as Baal Aadhaar card or Blue Aadhaar card. The process for Baal Aadhaar card requires only the photograph of the child applicant. No biometrics data is taken during the process as the biometrics of children below the age of 5 years is not completely developed. After coming to the age of 5 years, the child will have to provide their biometric data, iris scan and a new photograph that will be taken at the Aadhaar centre. When the child reaches the age of 15 years, he or she will go through another process similar to the previous one.

The Baal Aadhaar is linked to the Aadhaar of the parents or legal guardians. Hence, before applying for the Aadhar for the children, the parents or legal guardians must hold a valid Aadhaar card.

Aadhaar card for kids between the age of 5-15 years

An Aadhar card for children between the age of 5 years to 15 years has the same process as the Aadhaar card for adults. The only difference between the two processes is the set of required documents. The child applicant has to provide the biometrics, the iris scan and photograph at the Aadhaar centre. If the child applicant has already received an Aadhaar card in the below five years age category, the Aadhaar number will remain the same in the new card.

The biometrics given in the Aadhar card can be modified later if it does not match with the cardholder. Note that a birth certificate is a must for all the above procedures.

How to apply for aadhaar card for a child

The procedure of applying for an Aadhar card for kids can be done completely offline; however, you can go online as well. In either way, visiting an Aadhaar enrollment centre is obligatory. Hence, the main procedure has to be done offline. The online steps refer to the booking of an appointment at an Aadhaar centre for completing the registration process. Basically, you can book an appointment online and then visit the Aadhaar centre, or you can directly go to the Aadhaar centre.

The aforesaid terms apply to both age categories. The online procedure is the same; however, the offline Aadhaar procedure for children below 5 differs from the children ageing between 5 years to 15 years.

Aadhaar application for children below five years

Here are both online and offline procedures for applying for Baal Aadhaar.

Online process: Booking an appointment at an Aadhaar centre
  • Land on the official portal of UIDAI.
  • On the menu bar, click on ‘My Aadhaar’, and it will show a drop-down menu.
  • Take the option of ‘Book An Appointment’ and lead to the next page.
  • On the new page, select your preferred ‘City/Location’.
  • Tap on ‘Proceed to Book An Appointment’ and lead to the next page.
  • Among the three options shown on the new page, tap on ‘New Aadhaar’.
  • Enter the mobile number and captcha code.
  • Tap on ‘Generate OTP’ and complete the OTP verification.
  • Enter further details required on the next step and book the appointment.
Offline process: Enroll for Aadhaar
  • Visit your nearest Aadhaar enrollment centre (as per the appointment schedule if you have booked an appointment).
  • Collect the Aadhar card application form for the child and fill up.
  • Provide the Aadhaar number of the parent or guardian figure, as the Aadhaar card for children below five, is linked with the Aadhaar of the parent or guardian.
  • The residential and other demographic details are written from the Aadhaar card of the parent or guardian.
  • Submit the birth certificate with the application form
  • The photograph of the child will be captured. As stated earlier, biometrics and iris scan are not required for this age category.
  • Once you have successfully submitted the Baal aadhar application form, you will receive an acknowledgement slip containing the enrollment number. You can use the slip for tracking your enrollment status.
  • The Aadhaar card will be sent to you within 90 days from the application date.

Aadhaar application for children between 5 years and 15 years

The Aadhaar application procedure for the age group of 5 years to 15 years can be done both online and offline. You can follow similar steps for booking an appointment online, much like the previous age group. The offline method for enrollment, however, differs and is elucidated below.

  • Visit the nearest Aadhaar enrollment centre and collect the Aadhar card application form for the child.
  • Fill up the form with personal details, residential details and existing Aadhaar number (if any under the age category of below five years).
  • Submit the form to the centre.
  • The photograph, biometrics data and iris data of the child are taken at the centre.
  • You will receive the acknowledgement slip once the application has been made and the Aadhaar card will be disbursed within 90 days.

The documents required for applying for an Aadhaar card for kids are not many. Here are the documents you will need while applying for Aadhaar.

  • Identity proof: Birth certificate or any ID card issued by a school.
  • Residential proof: Aadhaar card of a parent or legal guardian and resident certificate issued by MP, MLA, Gazette officer, Panchayat or Tehsildar.
